Vanrail Supplies (Pty) Ltd is a manufacturer and supplier of engineering products and services exclusively to the railway rolling stock industry. We were established in 1992 by Andries van Heerden and initially were focused on supplying mechanical and pneumatic products to the South African Railways. Today however, together with our sister company, Van Heerden Railway Enterprises (Pty) Ltd based in Montagu, Western Cape, we supply products to many railroads on the African continent and some even beyond our continent. Our strongly vertically integrated business manufactures the following range of products:

  • Air, vacuum and steam hose assemblies,
  • Air brake equipment (including end cocks, dirt collectors, brake cylinders, tee-pieces, pressure taps)
  • Cast, machined and fabricated wagon and coach components.
  • Steel pipe assemblies with either threaded or flanged ends and all associated fittings
  • Repairs and services to air and vacuum brake equipment

Our extensive and very capable network of suppliers allows us to offer our customers an even wider range of manufactured rolling stock products. Our suppliers provide us with castings, forgings, pressings, laser and profile cut materials, welded and fabricated products, bent pipe, seals, gaskets and fasteners. We can therefore offer you the most appropriate and cost effective solutions for your rolling stock product needs.

We are the exclusive Southern African representative for Graham-White Manufacturing Co. of Salem, Virginia, USA. And is an ISO9001-2000 and AAR M1003 Quality Approved company.  Graham-White has been manufacturing products for the railroad and transportation industries since 1914. Today Graham-White operates from 4 manufacturing facilities across the USA and is part of the worldwide WABTEC Corporation. It manufactures products to filter, dry and drain the locomotive compressed air system. Products also include the valves to control sanding, horns, pantographs and other auxiliary pneumatic systems on locomotives.

Graham-White is the global technology leader in the drying of compressed air for locomotives and rail transit vehicles. Its 994-500 series air dryer operates on the world’s highest and most severe environment railroad, the QTR line from western China to Tibet. This same air dryer is installed on Transnet’s newest locomotives, the Classes 10E1, 15E, 19E, 43D, 44D and 45D. The units on the Class 44D and 45D locomotive were assembled by Vanrail at our Centurion factory and a large number of their internal machined parts were produced at our Montagu factory.

Vanrail is currently a level 2 BBBEE contributor.
